sjwiki home > Becoming a Skype Journal Author
We welcome contributors of words, pictures, sounds, and video.
Your work is your own, you grant us a non-exclusive license to use your work.
We ask prospective contributors for:
- Full name, skype, email and postal contact information.
- A resumé or CV.
- Writing samples, although your first story is probably enough for us.
- How you want to be credited. For example, if you have a day job as CTO of a company we can credit you and your company. If you have a personal blog or a book on Amazon, we can link to those too.
- An idea of the topics that interest you.
- Interests and conflicts of interest declared upfront.
What we look for:
- Enthusiasm
- Communication skills
- Blogging experience
- A broadband connection
- Skype use
- Insight into the bigger picture
Our process:
- Talk about a topic or beat with an editor
- Pick a project to start with
- Turn it in (email or via skype) to the editor.
- Discuss it, looking to the Skype Journal voice and style
- Editor posts it on your behalf as a guest blogger
- After 4-5 posts you become a correspondent
Becoming a correspondent:
- we set up an account and train you on our authors' interface and posting tools
- we make an author bio page
- you join our standing chats
- if you want, we add you to our news release email alias
- Skype Journal provides press credentials, press access to industry trade shows and conferences, and business cards
